Tamiya 1/35 RSO/01 German Tractor - 35394

Build one of the German Army’s most distinctive tracked utility vehicles with the Tamiya 1/35 German Tractor RSO/01.

The RSO, or Raupenschlepper Ost (“Tracked Tractor East”), was developed in response to the extreme snow, mud and poor road conditions encountered by German forces on the Eastern Front. Its fully tracked running gear and 70 hp air-cooled V8 engine gave it excellent mobility in terrain where conventional wheeled vehicles often struggled.

Tamiya’s all-new 1/35 kit represents a late-production RSO/01 from spring 1943 onward, featuring the raised cab floor and other details associated with later vehicles. The distinctive rounded pressed-steel cab has been accurately recreated using extensive research and 3D scanning, while the chassis includes detailed engine, fuel tank, propeller shaft and exhaust components.

The kit includes two marking choices representing RSO/01 tractors operating in:

The RSO was widely used to transport supplies and tow artillery, making it an excellent centerpiece for an Eastern Front or late-war European diorama. Tamiya also notes that its separately available 1/35 German 5cm Pak 38 (35392) can be attached directly to the RSO’s rear tow hook.

With modern tooling, extensive chassis detail and multiple cargo-bed configurations, the Tamiya RSO/01 is an excellent choice for armor and soft-skin modelers looking for something different from a conventional tank or truck.
