Why Modelers Choose MRP

What makes MRP stand out is its consistency and reliability. Each bottle sprays beautifully without clogging or leaving an orange peel texture, which gives modelers greater control for advanced techniques like mottling, fine line work, and subtle shading. Once cured, the finish is durable enough to resist lifting under masking tape and provides a solid base for decals and weathering. Because they are lacquer-based, MRP paints also work seamlessly with a wide range of finishing products, including enamels, oils, and other weathering systems.

The MRP Product Range

The MRP line is extensive and thoughtfully organized. The core range includes historically accurate military shades—covering FS, RLM, BS, RAF, and RAL standards—as well as modern automotive and specialty colors. Their metallics and super metallics produce smooth, realistic metal finishes, while transparent and clear shades are perfect for lenses, candy coats, and other special effects. For builders looking for high-visibility tones, MRP also offers a range of fluorescents and bright accents. To prepare your models, MRP primers and microfillers in black, grey, and white give excellent adhesion and surface definition, while their clear coats come in gloss, satin, and matt finishes to protect your work and set the right tone for decals or weathering. A smaller range of water-based acrylics is also available for detail work or those who prefer a brush-friendly option.

  • How to Use MRP Paints

Using MRP paints is straightforward. After washing and prepping your model, a light coat of primer ensures the best adhesion. Shake the bottle well, load it into your airbrush with a 0.2–0.4mm nozzle at about 12–20 PSI, and apply in light passes a few inches from the surface. Because the paints are pre-thinned, you don’t need to adjust viscosity unless you’re attempting ultra-fine line work, in which case a few drops of MRP thinner or retarder can improve flow. The paint is usually touch-dry within minutes and safe to mask after an hour, though it’s best to allow a full overnight cure before heavy handling or weathering. For brush touch-ups, MRP works well on small details, while larger hand-painted areas are better suited to their water-based range.

  • Cleaning and Finishing

Cleaning up is simple and efficient. Flush your airbrush with MRP thinner or high-quality lacquer thinner until clear, and for deep cleaning, disassemble and soak the metal parts briefly in a suitable cleaner. Once your base coats are complete, a gloss clear prepares the surface for decals, followed by another clear layer to lock them in. Weathering can then be applied with oils or enamels, and with proper curing, the finish holds up well to even heavy washes and filters.

  • Bottle Size and Safety

Each bottle comes in a generous 30ml size, and because of the thin-coat method MRP is designed for, a single bottle lasts through multiple projects. Like all lacquers, MRP should be used in a well-ventilated space with extraction, and a respirator is strongly recommended for safe spraying. The paints are flammable and should be stored upright, sealed tightly, and kept away from heat sources.
